Lukashenko opens national ball of university graduates

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko opened the national ball of university graduates in Minsk on 29 June, BelTA has learned.

"Looking at you, beautiful, young and already successful, I feel a sense of pride in Belarus," the head of state said as he addressed the graduates. "I take pride in those who created an independent country where our children receive decent education and where the best students celebrate their early successes at such a high level."

"I take pride in your parents, who have raised such wonderful people, the teachers, who have helped you find yourselves, and, of course, each of you," the Belarusian leader added.

The president noted that it is difficult to find your calling, to master a profession. Those who have been invited to the ball of graduates have already made their choice, they have already received higher education diplomas. “I sincerely congratulate you and wish you to achieve another milestone - to become a professional in your field, to move to a new phase of your life where your true status will be determined not by the number of followers and likes, but by the respect of people, including your future colleagues. You can earn recognition and respect only by honest and painstaking work, decency and fair attitude to people," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

In addition to the traditional greetings, the head of state also conveyed serious, conceptual messages to the audience.

“We do not choose time, time chooses us. Every generation has to face its own challenges. They mould the character not only of every person, but also of the entire nation,” the Belarusian head of state said. “You have a great background. You are a new generation of a spiritually strong nation that has preserved its national identity without having statehood for centuries. Please, think carefully about my words. You are descendants of the heroes who defended their native land and saved Europe from Nazism together with other brotherly Soviet nations,” he added.

Modern youth can also be proud of their parents, who survived he devastation and uncertainty of the 1990s, who created an independent state and who continue to work for the good of the country, the president said.

"In other words, you have a decent and powerful background. The background of the modern Belarusian nation. Therefore, take care of what we have: peace, ancestral traditions and our values. Take care of the history, which we are rightly proud of today," the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko urged young people to be more careful in judgments and actions in the times difficult for the country.

The head of state wished the graduates a peaceful, prosperous and successful life, to be worthy of those who created the future for them. "Today is a big day for you. You will remember it through years. Yet it is just a grain of sand in your life,” the Belarusian leader noted. "Everything is ahead of you, and most importantly, children." The president once again stressed that is important to think about the future and act right so as not to feel regrets afterwards.

“Every time I meet graduates of the year and look at their faces, I see the eyes of confident, motivated people who are, most importantly, ambitious in the right way,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. He wished the graduates to achieve more success in the future and to have great mentors by their side. “However, if the reality falls short of some of your expectations early in your career, do not give up on your profession right away. Give yourselves a chance. Maybe, it will take you some time to achieve recognition, career growth, and prosperity. People who steadily work towards their goals and are devoted to their job and country always succeed,” the head of state stressed.

“Do not hurry to leave your country and run away to ‘the promised land' where life is supposedly much happier. Do not hurry. It is easier to leave than to return,” the Belarusian president noted.

The national ball also featured an awards ceremony. The best university teachers and graduates were presented with the president's commendation letters.
