Lukashenko: Belarus-Belgium ties are going through difficult phase due to EU short-sighted policy

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko sent greetings to the people of the Kingdom of Belgium as the country celebrated the Belgian National Day, BelTA learned from the press service of the head of state.

For centuries, Belarusians and Belgians have defended their right to live and develop in an independent state, the Belarusian leader noted. "In recent decades, our countries have been actively expanding bilateral cooperation, especially in trade, economy and humanitarian matters, which contributed to the prosperity and development of both peoples," the message reads. "Unfortunately, due to the short-sighted policy of the European Union towards Belarus, the relations between our countries are going through a difficult phase now."

The head of state expressed confidence that the speedy abandonment of the policy of confrontation and the joint search for ways to resolve contradictions will contribute to the restoration of peace on the European continent.

Aleksandr Lukashenko reaffirmed Belarus' commitment to deepening mutually respectful partnerships with Belgium in all areas, and wished the people of the kingdom health, harmony and prosperity.
