| Belarusian and Chinese scientists will carry out 19 new scientific projects within the next three years. The implementation of these projects is stipulated by the programme of scientific and technical cooperation between Belarus and China for 2008-2010 adopted by the 8th session of the intergovernmental Belarus-China commission for science and technologies on June 25.
Leading specialist of the State Committee for Science and Technology of Belarus Alexander Gerasimov told BelTA that the scientists of the two countries will carry out joint research projects in the area of biotechnologies, energy, road building, agriculture, optics, medicine and information technologies. |

| Scientists of Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan have set up an International Eurasian Society for Infectious Diseases. The decision was taken at the foundation conference, BelTA learnt from Yuri Lobzin, Academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. He was elected President of the new organisation.
The society will focus on assisting the coordination of efforts of national and regional organisations, which participate in fighting infectious diseases, formation of the public opinion about topical issues relating to infection pathologies, assistance to supporting the high scientific and technological level of researches into infectious diseases, their prevention, diagnostics and treatment. |

| President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko issued the Decree #294 “On documenting of the population of the Republic of Belarus” June 3, BelTA learnt from the presidential press service.
It is the first time the legal relationship in the area of documentation has been regulated on the legislative level in such a comprehensive way.
In particular, one of the legislative acts defines identification cards (passport of a citizen, residence permit, refugee certificate) that are universal and can be used in all the legal acts to prove the identity of their holders; it also defines the identification documents necessary for entering or leaving the country. |

| The first Belarusian nuclear power station may be built by a consortium, Belarusian Energy Deputy Minister Mikhail Mikhadiuk told reporters on June 4.
He reminded that Belarus proposed three famous companies from the USA, France and Russia to take part in a tender. “We expect that within a month or a month and a half they will inform us about their consent to participate in the project,” the deputy minister said. |

| The Swedish Embassy in Belarus is expected to open before the year is out, Stefan Ericsson, the Head of the Minsk Office of the Swedish Embassy in Moscow, told the press conference timed to the National Holiday- the Swedish Flag Day, on June 4.
“We would like to open the Embassy before the year is out,” Stefan Ericsson noted. “Possibly, the ambassador will be appointed in the near future,” the diplomat added. |

| The authorities of the European Cycling Union (UEC) will arrive in Belarus June 4 to inspect the construction of the sports and entertainment center Minsk-Arena which is set to host the European Cycling Championships in 2009.
The delegation will include UEC General Director Roland Hofer, the press service of the Belarusian Cycling Federation informed. The two-day visit will embrace the meetings with Minister of Sports and Tourism of Belarus Alexander Grigorov, First Vice-President of the National Olympic Committee Gennady Alekseenko and Chairman of the Belarusian Cycling Federation Alexander Muravyev. |
